Innovator, Trailblazer, Visionary

In honour of President Elizabeth Cannon’s presidency concluding at the end of December 2018, we celebrate her bold leadership and unwavering commitment throughout her tenure at the University of Calgary.

President’s Legacy

During her eight years as president and vice-chancellor, President Elizabeth Cannon led the University of Calgary with extraordinary vision and energy. Her optimism, courage and ambition served to transform the student experience, advance research outcomes and strengthen community ties. Her inspiring brand of leadership and tireless pursuit of excellence elevated the University of Calgary to its place as one of Canada’s most recognized and dynamic post-secondary institutions.

Bold leadership

President Cannon’s collaborative creation and pursuit of the university’s strategic Eyes High call to action, and her stewardship of the historic $1.3-billion Energize campaign, have ignited tremendous positive change on campus, in Calgary and beyond.

What makes Calgary a great city is what naturally makes the University of Calgary a great university. Together, we share a strong set of values, and, as a university, we work closely with our community. To me, that is what’s important.

I always say, life is a journey, and it is a privilege and an honour to be president. You know you only have it for a finite period of time, and you try and do what you can to hopefully leave it in a better place than when you started.

Dru Marshall, provost and vice-president (academic), University of Calgary

“When people have the opportunity to look back historically at the last eight-and-a-half years at the university — there is no doubt that this will be a golden era… one which saw the solidification of the university as an anchor and leadership institution in Calgary, where the university truly started to play on the provincial, national and international stages... Elizabeth — thank you for everything you have done for us at the University of Calgary!”
